The Pre-Bonsai Starter Bundle is a carefully curated collection of four exceptional Acer palmatum varieties: Orange Dream, Atropurpureum, Butterfly, and Going Green. Each rooted cutting has been selected for its unique character, growth habit, and suitability for bonsai training, making this bundle the perfect foundation for building a refined bonsai collection.

From the vibrant golden-yellow spring flush of Orange Dream, to the rich burgundy tones of Atropurpureum, the delicate variegation of Butterfly, and the fresh lime-green foliage of Going Green, this bundle offers a diverse and dynamic colour palette throughout the seasons. Whether you are just starting your bonsai journey or expanding an existing collection, these cultivars provide the ideal material for shaping future living masterpieces.

This bundle is designed for South African growers who appreciate quality starter material with strong genetic characteristics and excellent bonsai potential.

Care Information:

Climate Adaptability:
All four varieties thrive in temperate climates and are well suited to most South African regions with moderate conditions. They tolerate winter cold but should be protected from extreme heat waves and strong, drying winds.

Sun Exposure:
For best results, position in morning sun with afternoon shade. Young starter plants are more sensitive to intense midday sun, which can cause leaf scorch, especially in variegated varieties like Butterfly.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Good drainage is essential. During hot or dry periods, monitor closely, as bonsai starter material can dry out faster in containers.

Soil Type:
Prefers slightly acidic, well-draining soil. A quality bonsai mix or amended potting medium that promotes aeration and drainage will support healthy root development.

Pruning & Training:
These rooted cuttings are ideal for shaping and structural training. Begin light formative pruning once established. Regular pinching during the growing season will encourage ramification and compact growth.

Fertilisation:
Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to encourage strong growth.
