Acer palmatum ‘Peve Limbo’ Rare Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Peve Limbo’ is a rare and distinctive variegated Japanese Maple prized for its delicate combination of cream, soft pink, and green foliage. Still relatively uncommon in cultivation, this refined cultivar is particularly appealing to collectors looking for unusual colour and intricate leaf markings.

In early spring, ‘Peve Limbo’ produces beautiful creamy foliage delicately edged with pale pink, contrasted by a network of darker green veins running through each leaf. The combination creates a soft, almost painted appearance, with individual leaves displaying slightly different proportions of cream, pink, and green.

As the season progresses, the lighter spring colouring gradually matures towards soft green and cream variegation, while fresh growth can continue to introduce subtle pink tones. Its colouring is particularly effective in bright shade, where the pale foliage brings light and contrast into darker areas of the garden.

During autumn, the foliage develops warmer seasonal tones before falling, bringing another dimension of colour to this already unusual Japanese Maple.

Sun Exposure: Prefers morning sun with afternoon shade or bright filtered light. Protection from harsh afternoon sun is recommended to preserve its delicate cream and pink variegation and reduce the risk of leaf scorch.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained, especially during warmer weather and while the tree is establishing. Avoid allowing the root zone to dry out completely or remain waterlogged.

Soil Type: Prefers fertile, slightly acidic, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. A cool root zone and good drainage will encourage healthy, steady growth.

Pruning: Requires minimal pruning. Light structural shaping can be carried out during winter dormancy, with damaged, crossing, or unusually vigorous shoots removed when necessary.
