Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' (Golden Full Moon Japanese Maple) is a stunning cultivar that stands out with its rich golden-yellow leaves in spring. As one of the Full Moon Japanese Maples, it has broad, rounded leaves that give it a full, lush appearance. The leaves transition to a bright lime green in summer, offering a refreshing contrast to its golden spring display. In autumn, the foliage turns to brilliant yellow and orange hues, ensuring a vibrant display.
This cultivar is known for its compact, rounded form, making it ideal for smaller gardens, containers, and bonsai. With its bright, eye-catching foliage and elegant structure, 'Jordan' adds a touch of warmth and colour to any landscape.
Care Information:
Climate Adaptability: 'Jordan' thrives in temperate climates and is well-suited for moderate conditions. It’s cold-hardy and can tolerate frost but should be protected from extreme heat to preserve its vibrant foliage.
Sun Exposure: This cultivar performs best in partial shade, especially in areas with hot summers. While it can tolerate some direct sunlight, too much exposure can cause leaf scorch. A location with morning sun and afternoon shade will help maintain the tree's golden hues.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. Overwatering or poor drainage can cause root rot. During dry periods, increase watering to maintain moisture levels, but avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
Soil Type: Prefers slightly acidic, well-draining soil. If the soil is heavy or clayey, amend it with organic material to improve drainage and ensure healthy root growth.
Pruning: 'Jordan' requires minimal pruning. Remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring. Light pruning after autumn can help maintain its compact, rounded form and encourage healthy new growth.
Fertilisation: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser designed for Japanese Maples in early spring to promote strong growth and vibrant foliage throughout the growing season.
